Anya Johnston established AJ Equestrian at 180 Gordon Rd (opposite The Warehouse) late last year. Her passion for equestrian has seen her competing all over the South Island in showjumping events.

“I started riding when I was 2 years old and I have never looked back. I never thought I would be opening a shop and selling some of my favourite brands of equestrian clothing.”

AJ Equestrian specialises in equestrian products stocking different brands as a main point of difference from other equestrian shops. The quality brands come from throughout New Zealand and also as far away as Europe, USA and Germany.

A popular product is GoLeyGo, an innovative magnetic securing system that ensures a secure connection between human and animal.

With a view to supporting local, Anya also stocks some local artworks in the shop including Art by Ariana.

Opening hours are usually from 3pm to 6pm. “But my hours differ if I need to so I post my opening hours each week on my Facebook page. If anyone needs anything they can just ring me.”
