A new Mosgiel-based group aims to build Kiwi boys into Kiwi icons.
ICONZ Mosgiel is an organisation open to all boys aged 5 to 16 and meets every Tuesday from 6.30pm to 8pm at Mosgiel Presbyterian Church.
“It’s all about mentoring. It’s all about men teaching boys how to be men,” Mosgiel leader-in-charge Warwick Tomlinson said.
“There are badges, there’s camps, there’s tramps, building stuff, burn and blow stuff up plus a small amount of God content. We encourage doing things and what makes a boy a boy but within a supervised regime.”
The Mosgiel group is the first ICONZ group in Dunedin and all leaders are police vetted and trained.
“We are here in the community to be what people need us to be. There is a lot of room to have a lot of fun and enjoy each other’s company and be relevant.”
Membership costs $90 a year and boys wear an ICONZ t-shirt and cap costing $50.
