Taieri Traditional Karate Centre will focus on preserving the traditional elements of Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate Do. We do not hold tournaments but are a member of IOGKFNZ.
Karate training is designed for people to practice at any age and aside from being great for self-defence, it helps you to improve your strength, concentration, flexibility, co-ordination and self discipline. The benefits of karate training will help you in all areas of your life.
As our dojo is new, we will run a combined junior / senior class on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm at Methodist Church Hall, 61 Gordon Road, Mosgiel. Once sufficient numbers attend, we will split into a dedicated junior and senior class, with juniors starting at 6pm, followed at 7pm by senior class. Family discounts apply.
The centre is led by Sensei Gail Anderson, a 3rd degree Black Belt, who started training in 1984 in Australia. She relocated to Dunedin New Zealand in 1993. After training for numerous years, she took a break, only to return to the dojo in 2018.
Gail has trained in dojos throughout the world. She has also successfully competed at national and international level. Her most recent overseas training trip was to Okinawa in 2019. She now wishes to inspire others, in the Taieri region, to follow the path of traditional karate.
